During the American Civil War, Union soldier John Dunbar is stationed at a remote frontier post, where he befriends a Lakota Sioux tribe. He adopts their way of life and earns the name “Dances with Wolves,” but must eventually leave when the U.S. Army threatens the tribe’s survival.
